Install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Headless from USB – Ubuntu – Mac – Windows
Unetbootin is a program there can create a bootable usb for you. Unetbootin comes in 3 different versions Ubuntu – Mac – Windows. You should choose the version your system is running on.
when you have downloaded the following files, you should open Unetbootin
Find ubuntu-14.04 server image
Choose your USB drive. mine is drive G and therefore the letter G
you should restart your computer and go into BIOS and choose to boot up on your USB drive.
Choose your preferred system language
Choose your language for the installation
Choose your keyboard layout
Enter your hostname for the system.
Enter your username for the system. and please dont use root or admin as a username for your own safety
and enter your password here
Confirm you password
My time zone is Europe/Copenhagen so i can choose yes. if the time zone isn’t correct choose no and find yours on the list
I will not use LVM as i don’t need it right now. if you are wondering what LVM is take a look here
press enter to choose the partition you want to install Ubuntu on.
Check if everything seems right and choose YES
if you are using a proxy server insert the address here.
You can choose what you prefer here. i prefer to set it on “Install security updates automatically” in case i don’t have time to update
I like to install everything manually, so the only thing i will choose here is OpenSSH server so i can control the server with SSH. choose space to choose and enter to continue.
Choose Yes here to install the GRUB loader.
We have a pretty basic installation of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Server.
You should login with your User and Password.
The first thing you should do on a fresh install is
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
You system should be updated now and ready to use.
